IX Annual Digital Photography Competition for Young Volunteers

From 2-30 September, the deadline for original submissions to the photography competition is open. The competition, run by the Montblanc Foundation, is now in its ninth year.

The Montblanc Foundation for the Promotion of Women is organising a competition open to all young people who were involved in a social volunteer activity with any non-profit organization that has its headquarters in Catalonia between June and September 2013.

Since its first year, this competition has awarded prizes not only to the young volunteers but also to the non-profit organisations which offer voluntary support. The organisations receive a prize equivalent to that of the winning volunteers, in recognition of their work for the most disadvantaged.

The competition runs as follows:

Deadline: Photographs will be accepted between 1 and 30 September 2013

Participants:

1. - Young people up to the age of 30 who participated, from June to September 2013, in a social volunteer activity with any non-profit institution that has its headquarters in Catalonia can compete. They must submit a maximum of three photographs taken during their volunteer work. Professional photographers, as well as trust members and employees of the Montblanc Foundation, their relatives children who live with them, are excluded from taking part in this contest. Minors need authorisation from a parent or guardian to participate in the competition.

2. – The photographs should portray the work carried out on the project in which the contestant participated.

3. – The photographs should be in digital format, regardless of the format in which they were captured.  Only low compression (high quality) .jpg format is accepted.  Each piece should have a minimum resolution of 300 pixels and be 20 x 25cm in size.  As a guide, in order to take a photo in this size and resolution, a 5 megapixels or higher camera on a high quality setting is needed.

4. To submit the photographs, send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Include the name and surnames, date of birth, DNI, address, telephone number and email address of the contestant, plus the titles of the photographs and their corresponding file names. Also include:

a)  The photographs (a maximum of three per contestant). A brief explanation of the context and the project is allowed. b) A certificate from the organisation stating that the contestant took part in volunteer work. Also, the name of the project or activity carried out, where it was undertaken and information about the organisation with whom the contestant volunteered, the number of pieces being submitted and the title of each one. c) The minors who participated should also send a scanned signed document of authorisation from their parent/ guardian, including their contact information. d) All contestants should attach a signed declaration stating that they were the creator of the photographs and that they have obtained permission or authorisation from the people photographed. In order to be able to compete in the contest and to be eligible for a prize, all of the above must be included in the submission. Should a contestant omit any of the requested information or include erroneous or incomplete information, they will be disqualified.  Once entered into the competition, the submissions will be stored in a file belonging to the Montblanc Foundation. The contestant may access this file to modify or withdraw their submissions if they send a letter or an email to the Foundation. The Montblanc Foundation, in accordance with the Ley Orgánica 15/1999 agrees to use the photographs with the intention of continuing to promote all those campaigns and activities related to their foundational activity and commits to safeguarding the information with the technical and organisational means necessary to ensure the security and confidentiality of the data.


5- Participation in the contest implies ceding the rights to reproduction, distribution and public communication, by whatever media, of the submitted photos which will be stored in the archives of the Montblanc Foundation and which may be subsequently used by this Foundation provided that the photographer is credited and there is no intention for profit.

Judging panel:

1. The judging panel will be presided over by the President of the Montblanc Foundation and composed of a minimum of five members and a maximum of seven.  2- The result of the competition will be announced on 5 November 2013 on the Foundation`s website and the prize winners will to contacted individually. This result of the competition cannot be appealed.  If the panel so decides, all or some of the prizes may not be awarded. 3- The prize giving and showcase of the selected photographs will take place at the time and date to be posted on the Foundation’s website.

Prizes:

The prizes to be awarded to the winners are as follows:  1st Prize:  Prize money of 500 euros for the photographer and a grant of 500 euros for the volunteer’s organisation.  2nd Prize:  Prize money of 300 euros for the photographer and a grant of 300 euros for the volunteer’s organisation. 3rd Prize:  Prize money of 200 euros for the photographer and a grant of 200 for volunteer’s organisation. There is only one prize awarded per contestant.

Taxes and Costs:

Of the amounts bestowed on the prizes, taxes will be retained which correspond in kind to personal income tax, or any other which may affect the prize. 

Acceptance:

Participation in the contest implies the knowledge and acceptance of all terms and conditions set out on the Foundation’s website.
