Although over the last few years worldwide poverty levels have decreased remarkably, there are still more than 1,200 million people living in conditions of extreme poverty. Many of them, specially women and girls, suffer from a lack of quality education and proper healthcare assistance.
On this International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, a call is made from the United Nations for support for people from the most disadvantaged areas in order to help them overcome their poverty and build a better life for themselves and for their families. To do so, firm and receptive organizations are needed.
The motto for this year is "Working together for a world without discrimination: making the most of the experience and knowledge of people living in extreme poverty". Together we can build a sustainable world of prosperity and peace, justice and equality that ensures a dignified life for all of us.
