Women and human rights in Kinkhasa at the DR of Congo

The project "Strengthening University Women in the Kinshasa University Setting", intended for university students in Kinshasa, develops well participated activities.

The project was started in October, with the collaboration of Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Barcelona [Illustrious College for Lawyers in Barcelona] (ICAB) and the NGO Centro Congolais de Culture [Congolese Culture Centre], de Formation et de Développement [Training and Development] (CECFOR) in Kinkhasa, also with the help of the Asociación de Mujeres juristas [Women’s Lawyer Association] in Kinshasa, led by the lawyers M.José Fuente Boix (Barcelona) y Nadine Omoy Mundala (Kinshasa).

This project aims to promote and protect human right, specially focusing on women's rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo, through the education and direct participation of Congolese female university students. Aiming to spread a better knowledge of human rights in university settings and to increase specific student actions in this area, helping to develop their own initiatives. Finally, the completion of this goal will help create a calmer environment in universities and groom future leaders of the country and active agents in the protection of these rights.

With this objective, they have designed a program in order to increase awareness in 400 university students and 750 high-school students in the last two years of high-school with regard to respecting and knowing about human rights, through the previously selected training of a group of 25 student-promoters.
