The Montgafula neighborhood held a celebration on Sunday, June 2nd. Félix Kabange Numbi, Congolese Health Minister, opened the Monkole Maternity and Newborn Hospital; an initiative by our local partner CECFOR and donated a fully-equipped ambulance with the help of the Government of DR Congo.
Monkole started running in the late 80s with an ambulance and 3 observation beds. Since then, it has been attending to the needs of half a million residents. Almost 100,000 people can be treated every year in the 84,000 clinics and 14 offices spread throughout remote and disadvantaged neighbourhoods: Kimbondo, Eliba and Moluka.
The construction came to an end after 7 years, along with the inclusion of new services in the hospital. They have been funded thanks to the international cooperation of countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Argentina, Japan, as well as the Congolese government.
Since 2004, Montblanc has collaborated with the Monkole Hospital to serve the people to the outskirts of Kinshasa.
